Have you ever felt like this life, with all its ups and downs, has caused your heart to fear the future? Let’s consider how we can learn to trust God for all that our future holds.
Just this morning I was in my kitchen as I was preparing breakfast for my kids. In between flipping pancakes, I was pacing the floor and praying out loud quite fervently. I heard myself say, “I will not fear the future”, and I just stopped in my tracks. God had got my attention.
As soon as I heard myself speak those words, I knew I needed to pray into that. Because until then, I wasn’t feeling like I was actively afraid of what the future holds for me.
I remembered the Proverbs 31 Woman. The virtuous woman is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. (Proverbs 31:25) This is a favorite verse of mine, but to be honest, I hadn’t really thought about it in a while.
There are a lot of unknowns in my life that could be legit questions and prayer requests, but I didn’t realize that I was holding onto anything too tightly until the Holy Spirit brought those words to my mouth, and I heard with my own ears!
There are so many things that hide under the surface, even unaware to us, until God reveals them to our hearts. Fear. Disappointment. Failed hopes and dreams… the list could continue.
The Truth about Why We Fear the Future
The places our hearts hold these undealt with questions become stagnant ponds that God’s river doesn’t have access to flow through, because without our knowing, we have told God that we can’t trust Him with those places.
May our hearts open up and invite God to show us where the ponds of our heart have become stagnant.
Today was a simple testimony to even me, that God will truly show us what is in our hearts, as we walk this life out aware of His presence in our lives. Simply because we love His Truth and invite Him into our day!
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
There was amazing peace and strength in declaring to the Lord, “You said I don’t have to fear the future!! You said I could LAUGH without fear of the future!!”
I was so amazed as if I had heard God’s promises, like it was the very first time. I was filled with so much joy, because God reminded me that He has abundant and unfailing hope available for the future of those who trust in Him!
How to Stop Fearing the Future as a Child of God.
Claiming the promises of God for our lives can bring such a beautiful peace and confidence that gives us strength to trust God more deeply. When we take God at His Word and intentionally trust Him over our life’s situations, we activate our faith and invite God to do the fighting for us.
Jeremiah 29:11 say, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Here we see the promise that God intends good things for us, and we can choose to receive His promise in faith.
We can apply God’s promises over and over again, by praying His Word and reminding our hearts and mind daily. When a negative thought comes to mind, learn what GOD SAYS ABOUT IT, this is His personal promise to you Child of God! The Bible is full of practical wisdom that speaks to our everyday life situations.
Do Not Fear the Future, God is with You!
Coming back to my testimony, it was later in the day, and I was going about my mom life. My hands were busy doing mundane things around the house, but my heart was in praise mode. I was rejoicing in the Lord and loving on Him, when all of a sudden, I heard myself tell Jesus, “Life with You is an ADVENTURE!” And it made me think of my prayer this morning about being afraid in my heart for the future.
I am so thankful God cleared that up in my heart and mind in that same day, because now it is my faith-filled declaration that, “I DONT HAVE TO FEAR THE FUTURE, BECAUSE LIFE WITH JESUS IS AN ADVENTURE!!”
God promises that the unknown doesn’t have to cause us to fear, simply because He will be with us! We can have confidence in the Character of a faithful God and live without fear of the future.
So, take joy in the Lord, child of the living God, and delight in Him who knows your end from the beginning. God works all things according to His will.
Even when things look difficult or overwhelmingly impossible, God is working behind the scenes to create a beautiful life that declares the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living!
So, we will declare God’s goodness in our lives because He is forever faithful, and His promises are true! We know that God takes care of those who belong to Him, and we are safe in His love arms.
A Prayer for Fearing the Future
PRAYER: Lord God, today we make You our delight, and we put our hearts attention on You. Please show us the hidden things in our heart that keep us from fully trusting You, and help us to allow Your love to wash us clean from the inside out. We say that Your Truth sets us free from every fear, disappointment and uncertainty. We put our hope in God’s Word and our hearts are made glad. In Your character, we can fully trust and rely. Thank You Lord, that we don’t have to fear the future, because LIFE WITH JESUS IS AN ADVENTURE!! Amen!
